Parent and Me Class is being put on hold as I welcom our new baby into our family.
Check back for updates. Email me via the contact page to put yourself on my list, and I will let you know when class starts again.
I wanted to create a class where parents and their young children can move, learn, and play together.
I met my husband Abe at a Jiu Jitsu tournament back in 2012. Soon after I began to train, and my son has been on the Jiu Jitsu mats since he was in my womb. Coming from a dance background, Jiu Jitsu was alway more than a defense martial art to me, it was primal movement, community, improvisation, and exploration. While Jiu Jitsu can be so complex, it’s most basic concepts come quite naturally to young children moving around on the ground.

Where:
SubForce Jiu Jitsu, located at 718 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ.
Once you come inside, head upstairs to new and spacious mats! (Free street parking is all along Ridge Road, as well as side streets.)
Who:
Parents and their young children, ages 0-6 years old.
There are plenty of classes and activities offered to kids 5 years and older. However, for the little ones, not so much. This class will focus less on technical details and more on simply moving our bodies around with our kids.
Parents don’t have to have any expereince.
What:
Free Play
We will allow some time and space for free play, so kids can get a feel for the large room, then we will dive in!
Warm Ups
Children and parents get to go across the floor using their bodies in all different types of ways. Jiu Jitsu is a full body experience, and Jiu Jitsu warmups are unique and known world wide.
We will crawl, climb, carry, scoot, shrimp, roll, jump, and more!
Lesson/Technique
Each week we would go over a different jiu jitsu principal/position. This will give parents a glimpse into Jiu Jitsu fundamentals, and will give kids an opportunity to climb and monkey around with mom and dad.
- Guard Retention/ Passing Guard from Standing
- Backpack/ Back Control
- Technical Stand Up
- Mount Control/ Escape
- Closed Guard
End of Class Cool Down
If the kids have some focus left in them, we will sit in a circle to hear what the kids enjoyed most about class. Then close out, by taking a few deep breaths together, and thanking each other for training together.
Things to Note:
△ 1. No shoes, food, or drinks on the mat.
△ 2. Wear comfortable clothes, no Gi or special clothing needed.
△ 3. Bring your own water.

New to the Lyndhurst area? Here are some local gems for you to check out after class!
Of course, our coffee shop Muse Coffee Co. Just a few miles from the Jiu Jitsu school.
The highest quality coffee beans, roasted locally, and brewed with artistic precision. There are also non-coffee options, such as ceremonial matcha, chai, loose teas, and hot chocolate for the kiddos. We sourse our pastires from an exqusit french baker “The French Dad” of Montclair.
High qulaity, and fresh italian food, made daily! We couldn’t live without Michael’s Salumeria. You can indulge with some of their cheesy rice balls, or keep it clean, and select from their hot and cold vegetable and whole grain salads. If you would like to dine in someplace, check out there beautiful location in Rutherford NJ, called Suprema. Same exceptional food, with a beautiful sky lit atmosphere. (Pick up only here).
If you want a secret little nature spot overlooking NYC skyline, check out the Meadowlands Environmental Center. There are little trails, and mile long walks over the water. In the summer it you will find lots of native plants and butterflies.
If it’s a nice day and you are looking for a playground and nice park to picnic in, check out Lyndhurst Municipal Park. In the warmer months there is a big fountain. It is just a block and a half away from Muse Coffee Co.
